Citizen comment period question
For those localities that either live stream or broadcast their meetings, do you in any way exclude the citizen comment period as part of the broadcast, either by not streaming that portion, silencing the mic, or not broadcasting that portion? We’re finding more and more citizens using that time as free air time to broadcast their personal opinions or calling for citizen action rather than addressing the council with their concerns. I’m thinking that perhaps if they weren’t “playing for the camera” but actually speaking to council, it may be more productive. Thoughts, please.
